Varilight Energy Saving Dimmable CFL light bulb 100w

Welcome to the page that will hopefully tell you all you need to know about the Varilight Energy Saving Dimmable CFL Light bulbs, rated at 20w but have an equivalent light power output of 100w

The Varilight Dimmable Energy Saving Compact Fluorescent Lamp has won the 100% diesgn awards in September 2007 and has featured in a Greenpeace demonstration highlighting energy saving lighting.

During the lifetime of these bulbs approximately 16,000 hours, grade A, far beating the competition, you can expect to save over £100 on energy bills and reduce CO2 commisions by half a tonne.

This technology allows you to dim an energy saving light bulb using your dimmer switch. Best of all this product will work perfectly with the remote control Varilight dimmers.

Thus in dimming these products you can create the perfect ambience and be energy saving at the same time, particularly important when we are all trying to reduce our carbon footprint at the moment.

For use with standard dimmer switches with a power output starting at 20w (Minimum load) - phase cut, leading and training edge technology

The Main Features can be summarised as follows:
  • Dimming range 2% to 100%
  • Full dimming and constant brightness, regardless of voltage fluctuations
  • Excellent power factoring
  • Digital flicker - free regulation of brightness
  • Plug & Play - swap your standard bulb to this new energy saving dimmable light bulb
  • Produces 1300 lumens
  • Excellent power factor correction of 0.95 compared to 0.60 for other CFL's, thus allowing for more efficient energy distribution and as discussed reduced energy costs.
The Minimum load requirements are simple, the bulb is rated to 20w and thus your minimum load must be met. Example if you had a minimum load of 60w you should use 3 of these bulbs on that circuit, ie 3x20w = 60w

Please note these energy saving bulbs work perfectly with all the remote control light switch as featured in my ebay store.

However, there is also an upside to these bulbs, for example if you wanted to use them with the Varilight 1 gang remote dimmer which is rated to 400w, you could use 10 of these bulbs on one circuit (ie half the power, being 20w x 10 = 200w), but as they are 20w equivalent to 100w, this would effectively produce 10 x 100w of power = 1000w off one light circuit, which would be bright enough to light up a church on a dim day from one light switch alone!

Also note, coming soon: Fully dimmable ballasts for Linear Flurescent Lampts (LFLs) again Varilight are going to set the standard, big companies should take note.

Reduce your carbon footprint today, save the environment and have ambiant lighting around your home or work place.

5 Bulbs, from left to right:
1. Standard incandescent light bulb, slightly modified at the top. 2.Megaman energy saving dimmable LED GU10 bulb. 3. Standard incandescent light bulb. 4. Standard energy saving dimmable light bulb. 5.Varilight Energy Saving dimmable light bulb

Comparison of Standard incandescent bulb to Varilight Energy Saving Dimmable light bulb:
The Varilight Energy Saving dimmable light bulb is approx only 2cms longer than the standard light bulb and so will more often than not fit easily into most lighting scenarios that use to use a standard bulb.
Approx Max sizes:
1. Standard light bulb: 6cms wide, 10cms tall
2. Varilight Energy Saving dimmable light bulb: 6cms wide, 10 cms tall

*** A Further note to be updated soon is that we are now selling the LED Wise GU10 and MR16 LED Bulbs, which have just gone into John Lewis, these are expensive, but terrific at only 3 watts, the energy saving is out of this world, more to follow soon, or call 0800 043 5532 ***

Varilight YRC8 Remote Control Handset - How to programe into your sky/ tv/ dvd controller

The Varilight eight button hand held control unit (YRC8) can control up to 7 individual light circuits the 8th button will then conrol all circuit altogether in one go.
You can either turn the lights on / off or hold down the button to dim them, just the same if you were at the light switch where you would leave your finger on the light switch to dim the lights as opposed to twisting the dimming knob.Alternately you can control your light with a sky, tv, dvd or audio controller, simply pick a button that is rarely used and you can program that button into the remote dimming light circuit.

The instructions are as follows :

Dimmers with an "eye" in the middleof the sensor are pre- programmed to respond to button 1 and button 8 on the varilight remote control handset. Alternatively , the dimmers with a "eye" in the middle of the sensor can be programmed to respond to any of the buttons 1 to 7 varilight remote control handset or any button on the remote control handet you have at home already. If there is a button that you do not currently use then you can use it to control the dimmer by following steps carefully.

1. To set the dimmer into learning mode, after it is initalized, tap the sensor 6 times, roughly once per second.( each tap causes the light to turn on or off. After 6 taps on the sensor the light will step up and down once and go off.

2. Within 15 seconds and from a distance of less than 1 meter (3 feet) away, pointing directly at the "eye" press and hold down the chosen button, releasing after holding the button down for at least 2 seconds. The light(s) will turn off and on.

3. To confirm your choice, press and hold down the same button again releasing after holding the button down again for at least 2 seconds. If the programming has been successful, the light will turn on and off. The light then step up and down once to confirm. Try controlling the dimmer with the remote control. If it does not respond return to step 1 above and try agiain. If the problem persists , try a different button, a different remote control unit or purchase the Varilight controller.

4. You can now use this button on the remote control to operate the dimmer. As with the touch sensor, a single touch on the remote control button will turn the light(s) on and off. Holding the button down will make the brightness cycle up and down. To change the direction of the of the dimming cycle remove contact and then press the button again. Release contact from the button when the desired light level is reached. The dimmer can still operated using the touch sensor.

5. For 2 gang models, repeat steps 1 to 4 for each sensor, teaching each one a different button so you can control each one separately. You can change your choice of control button by following steps 1 to 4 again at any time.

Coming soon the NEW YRC8 and a NEW video showing all of the above.

Varilight Mirror Chrome Selection

Varilight produce a vast range of affordable and stylish light switch products which come in a range of colours and various styles, specifically Mirror Chrome.

This can be found in either a standard finish, screwless finish or a ultraflat design where the plate is aproximately 1mm think!

A few types of switches are:-

Remote Touch Dimmers - The Varilight Touch/Remote Dimmer Switch uses the latest Trailing Edge Technology providing many more functions than any other dimmerswitch.

As the name suggests you can either dim these products by touch or alternatively using a remote control.

An example of this is IDCI401M.

Rotary Dimmers - The lights can be dimmed by the rotary control piece.

When choosing a standard dimmer add the wattages of the bulbs you wish to dim and choose a dimmer with a suitable maximum load rating. If you have a 2 way circuit (where the same lights are controlled by two switches) you must choose a push on/push off dimmer and replace one of the switches with that dimmer.

When you switch on a push on/push off dimmer please note that the lights will return to the same level that they were when you last switched them off.

An example of this is HC4.

Toggle - Varilight Toggle Switches are suitable for controlling both mains and low voltage lighting and for use on both 1 way and 2 way circuits.

An example of this is XCT9.

Plug Sockets - Varilight plug sockets have many styles to suit your desired location. These come with a choice of White or Black decorative finish.

All Varilight products are designed to meet the latest European Safety Legislation.

The Internet Switch Store continues during the Snow

The Internet Switch Store continues during the Snow

Thank you to all our customers, emails, orders and phone calls, we are doing our best to dispatch, arrange logistics and manage the supply chain this week.

The worst snow in 30 years in the south east has made things difficult, but not impossible.

The picture can see Graham Marris walking nearly 2 miles to meet the postman to ensure over 100 of our parcels get dispatched to our customers.

Obviously there have been some delays, so apologies for this, but we think given the difficult conditions the team have done well to do what they can in such a scenario - Thank you for your patience.

Best regards for 2010
